Eastwood Whelpton takes pride in its customer service and one of our signature qualities is our yacht handover.
Sailors with some previous experience should have little difficulty handling yachts from the fleet after our comprehensive handover briefing in the yard.
Once you are ready to depart, one of our team will give a detailed tour of your yacht, including how to hoist the sails and lower the mast, and answer any questions you may have.
Mast lowering is necessary for some low bridges including:
Little prior knowledge is required to take a boat out for the week. You may decide to take part in a local RYA training session prior to your holiday, or take a half day session on your yacht with one of our instructors for your first afternoon or for the first few days of your break on the water with us.
For those who have not sailed on the Broads before, introductory instruction can be booked on the first afternoon of your holiday, at a charge of £75. The instruction includes a sail on the river to demonstrate basic sailing manoeuvres and handling under engine. Your skipper will also get you to your first evening destination safely and help with route planning for your holiday.
Many of our customers only sail once or twice a year and we aim to provide a friendly, helping hand to help you start your holiday and brush up on your sailing skills if you are a little rusty.
If you have RYA Day Skipper, Dinghy L3 or ICC qualification but have an inexperienced crew, young children or are feeling a little nervous, then we recommend you having a professional skipper with you for the first day or more if you feel you need it.
Our friendly skippers help you with making sure everyone on board knows what is safe and what’s not and helping all crew members know what their jobs are to help you all have a stress-free sailing holiday.
One of our skipper team will meet you on arrival here at the yard and welcome you on board. After a yacht handover & safety briefing they will head out onto the water with you for a ‘shake down’ sail. Your skipper will take you through all the important basics of raising and lowering sails, operating the engine, mooring, man overboard drill etc.
On arrival at your first destination your skipper will take time with you to review the afternoon, any questions and look at the itinerary with you for the rest of your holiday. If you feel anyone would benefit from additional coaching at this stage, we are then more than happy to arrange this with you.
Skippered Charter can also be booked in advance at £150 per day in addition to your yacht hire. Should you require any other support or help with us during your time afloat we are only a phone call away.
