RYA Learn to Sail Courses

With just a few days coaching you will be able to develop the skills required to become a capable skipper enjoying the freedom to sail the Broads network with confidence.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the recognised governing body for watersports training and qualifications in the UK.  The Norfolk Broads School of Sailing at Eastwood Whelpton, is proud to be an RYA Training Centre and our team of instructors have many years of experience and in depth knowledge of the Broads network of rivers. 

   RYA Level 1

  • 2 day course (16 hours instruction required). 
  • Non-residential.
  • This is a course for complete beginners.
  • Learn how to sail in all directions and build awareness of launching and recovery and essential safety knowledge.

 

   RYA Level 2

  • 3 day course (24 hours instruction required).
  • Non-residential.
  • For those looking to develop their sailing ability.
  • Focus on rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, man overboard and safety.
  • On completion you should have a basic knowledge of sailing in light winds independently.

   From ‘Zero to Hero’ 

  • Level 1 and 2 combined. 5 day course (40 hours of instruction required).
  • Non-residential.
  • Our ever popular ‘Zero to Hero’ course offers a more intensive week of training for those keen to develop their skills. 
  • On completion you should have a basic knowledge of sailing in light winds independently.

 From ‘Zero to Hero’ 

  • Level 1 and 2 combined.
  • 5 day course (40 hours of instruction required).
  • Residential – taught on a cabin yacht so you can experience sailing, living and sleeping on a yacht.
  • Your instructor will meet you every morning and leave you moored safely every evening.  
  • Our ever popular ‘Zero to Hero’ course offers a more intensive week of training for those keen to develop their skills. Our residential option is perfect for families and groups that, alongside learning to sail, would like a holiday and fully immersive experience. 

   RYA Level 3

  • 2 day course (16 hours of instruction required).
  • Non-residential.
  • Level 3 is all about time on the water, gaining experience and consolidating your sailing skills and abilities. 

 

 RYA Inland Waterways     Helmsman’s Course

  • 2 day course (16 hours of instruction required).
  • Non-residential and residential options available. 
  • Suitable for beginners or anyone that wants to build confidence on the water. 
  • This course is intended for those that want to helm a cruiser with confidence and will cover essential safety, helming in all conditions, locks, collision avoidance and general engine maintenance.
