Your Experience Level
Beginner
No experience or a little previous sailing experience.
No experience – No problem – take one of our skippers with you and learn how to sail with our RYA Sailing School.
A little experience – You may have sailed a dinghy in the past or helped crew on a yacht before but are still learning the ropes. You may be a little rusty and have not sailed for some time. You may have worked towards and completed an RYA Level 1 ‘Start Sailing’ course.
At this level, we would highly recommend that you take one of our team with you for a minimum of the first afternoon of your holiday to help you and your crew (re)learn the ropes and ensure you can handle the yacht safely. We also suggest that customers at this level take up the opportunity to do an RYA 2 day course to help you develop your sailing skills and get some top tips on Broads Sailing.
Intermediate
Some sailing experience in a dinghy or yacht, either on inland waters or at sea.
You are able to skipper a yacht and manage a crew and may have sailed here on the Norfolk Broads before, or are part of a sailing club and sail regularly during the year. You will have some level of qualifications such as RYA Dinghy/Keelboat L2/3/4 or a Day Skipper Certificate. You may not have sailed on a Gaff Rigged yacht before but are able to handle a dinghy or a Bermudan yacht competently.
At this level we do provide a ‘top tips for Gaffers’ session and also are working on some online training and resources for this for 2021. We can also provide additional sailing courses to help you develop your practical skills – racing skills etc
Advanced
Good experience of sailing and associated RYA qualifications.
You have qualifications and/or proven experience of skippering a yacht either on the Broads or at Sea. You can demonstrate a good understanding of close quarters inland water sailing here on the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads in all weathers. Some racing experience also.
At this level you may wish to consider opportunities to tackle more challenging routes and itineraries for example passing through Great Yarmouth and Breydon Water to reach the Southern Rivers. In addition you could consider participating in one of the local regattas or the annual ‘Three Rivers Race’ – to get a real appreciation of the Norfolk Sailing Scene!
