These are unprecedented times, and just a few days ago we were focusing on preparing ourselves to deliver safe, boating holidays to our guests. We have continued to monitor the situation and the Government advice closely, always mindful of our duty to protect our staff, our guests and our local community. Over the last 48 hours there has been an increasing and understandable concern in local communities towards holiday visitors, and the government has re-stated guidance that there should be no unnecessary or non essential travel. The non-essential travel guidance now includes the following statement "...visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People should remain in their primary residence."
Therefore, it is now clear to us that the government guidance precludes guests from travelling to us and has thereby effectively temporarily suspended our sailing holidays operation. We will be contacting guests with bookings in the coming weeks in order to try to find alternative dates for holidays later on in the year, and we will endeavour to do this each week for those holidays that are 6 weeks out if you have not sought to contact us first. For the moment the yard will remain open for boat repairs and launching although this will remain under review on a daily basis.
Please understand that this decision has been made as an absolute last resort in the public interest, and the effect on our staff as well as our suppliers will be considerable. We thank them all for their efforts and will do all that we can to restore normal service as soon as it is safe to do so.
We will continue to monitor the scientific and government advice in the coming weeks and will publish updates on our website and social media accounts.
Thank you for your understanding.
Welcome to Eastwood Whelpton: a family-run, sailing holiday specialist since 1959. We're located in the heart Norfolk Broads' best sailing waters, making us one of the most desirable places in the UK to take a holiday.
We offer our yachts for short breaks and full week holidays with discounts for consecutive weeks. Our fleet comprises traditional sailing yachts and modern sailing boats for charter hire from Upton Yacht Station, which is situated in the centre of the network of rivers and lakes we know as the Broads.
We pride ourselves on having the best turned-out hire yachts on the broads thanks to our dedicated team of staff. For over 50 years, Anne and Tim Whelpton perfected Norfolk Broads sailing in a blooming business leaving many customers coming back for more year after year.
At the end of 2015 after 58 years of running the yard, Anne handed over the business to Andy & Annie Hamilton who have been long term customers and friends of Eastwood Whelpton for many years.
“The week was just exactly what I needed – we had a splendid time – so much so it took us most of the next week to recover! When we were down and you said you’d been quiet I thought it was strange that your wonderful boats were not busier. You were so kind I wanted to be able to return the favour. Thanks again for a lovely week, I can see we will be down again before too long.”Elspeth Mason – Summer 2015
“We hired High Seas for a week, the boat was all ready for us, beautifully clean and the boatyard staff were helpful and professional, but completely down to earth. We had a fantastic week sailing in such a beautiful environment on a beautiful yacht. If your reading this... Just do it!”Phil Harding – Spring 2015
“The Bitternes Afloat Christian Holiday have hired yachts from Eastwood Whelpton for over 30 years. The yachts are always beautifully presented and prepared, and are a joy to sail. Thank you.”Bitternes Afloat Commodore - Easter 2015
