Coffee Mornings with a Cause at Eastwood Whelpton

Charity coffee mornings are plain sailing at Norfolk Boatyard thanks to local community

We will be hosting a charity coffee morning with a difference this Christmas and we really hope you can make it!

On Thursday 5th December 2024 Eastwood Whelpton will be raising money in support of Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day. The team will be wearing their finest Christmas attire, the treats will be plentiful and the kettle will be on between 10 and 11 am. Oh and did we mention that our very own Frosty and his accordion may make an appearance and bring some extra festive cheer?

As well as raising money for this super cause, we really want this to be an occasion for our local community to come together and for us to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. This means our suppliers that deliver whenever a spare part is needed, customers that drop by for a cuppa at The Anchor Cafe and the regular dog walkers that give us a wave of a morning.

Since the EW crew had the seed of an idea to host local community events on a monthly basis, we have raised over £3000 for charity.

Suzy Strowger, the Office Manager at Eastwood Whelpton said:

“Community is at the heart of everything we do at Eastwood Whelpton. We are very aware that we are part of a small rural community, and that people join us month after month and give so generously is something to be celebrated.”

So, let’s see out 2024 together and in style! Where did those Rudolf antlers go ….

Moorhen – the perfect getaway for your honeymoon hideaway

The Times has just announced the Norfolk Broads as one of the 10 best honeymoon destinations in the UK.

With this in mind, we took a cruise back in time to discover how our very own Moorhen, has always been the perfect couples’ choice, for a vintage retreat on the water.

Moorhen of the past

Moorhen IV is a stunning 2-berth motor cruiser. She is one of a fleet of 7, built locally by Moores of Wroxham in the 1950s. A fine example of the craftmanship and skill of Norfolk boatbuilders from times gone by.

The ‘Moorhen’ class of boats were known as the ‘honeymooners’ choice. Unlike the usual singe berth bunks on other motor cruisers of the time, they featured a convertible double bed and were the perfect size and design for a romantic retreat.

Part of the Moores of Wroxham hire fleet for many years, she has since been lovingly maintained and restored by several private owners, before returning to hire at Eastwood Whelpton. We are proud to be the custodians of this stunning piece of Broadland history.

Moorhen in 2025 and beyond

Fast forward to 2025 and we offer a similar experience for our customers seeking an idyllic escape to the Broads National Park. We include plenty of vintage touches such as the 1950s books and board games, binoculars for bird watching and cocktail glasses for those long summer evenings out on deck. We also know the importance of luxury and modern comfort so your home for the week will be a fully heated, cosy cabin, with a welcome pack of local produce of coffee, tea, cake and biscuits on arrival and, of course, there will be a bottle of bubbly on board to help you celebrate in style!

Extra special touches

If you are choosing Moorhen IV for a honeymoon or extra special occasion, we also offer a number of ‘optional extras’ to choose from including:

a skipper on your first day to introduce you to the wonderful network of broads and rivers that make up our National Park. They might even let slip a few ‘wild moorings’ only known locally.

your choice of a luxury crewman’s picnic or afternoon tea on arrival.

restaurant recommendations pre-booked on request.

for the ultimate luxury experience, we can arrange for a vintage Rolls Royce to meet you at your mooring in the evening and escort you to the Maids Head Hotel, the oldest hotel in the UK, dating back over 800 years to enjoy fine dining in their award winning restaurant.

We know that we can offer a truly unique and unforgettable experience and can’t wait to share this with even more of you in 2025.

Information Management System

We are very much looking forward to meeting you all and hope that you will enjoy a great time afloat with us here on the Broads.

Pre arrival information

We are committed to ensuring that you have a safe and enjoyable holiday on the water. On arrival you will receive a comprehensive handover, but it is also essential that the skipper and at least one other member of the party takes time to familiarise themselves with the following information before you arrive at the yard. Please follow the links and take some time to read and watch the information in our Sailing Holiday Packing Checklist, Skippers Handbook and Broads Authority Safety videos.

20190824 155524

If you intend to bring your own bedding and pillows please make sure that we are aware in advance so that we can avoid putting these items on your yacht.

We also ask that you have settled any outstanding amount on your holiday invoice 6 weeks prior to your arrival either by Bank Transfer or Card Payment. Our bank details can be found on your invoice. Do call us if you need help, we do not accept cash or cheque payments.

For safety reasons, please do remind your crew to bring non-slip (deck) shoes for wearing on deck at all times.

When You Arrive

On arrival, please find a space to park in the main yard car park close to the main office building.

Your arrival time will be detailed in your welcome email and this is for your boat check-in and safety briefing appointment. It is important that you meet this time slot – if you are running late due to traffic, please call us so that we can try and move things around if needed for you.

Direct Boarding and Handover/Safety Briefing

On arrival please report to the Reception where you will be greeted by one of our welcome team. After the opportunity for a drink we will then show you to your boat for your handover and safety briefing.

You should assume that the briefing will typically last between 45 and 60 minutes and it is an essential part of ensuring your safety on the water. Our handover team are experienced in tailoring your briefing to your needs and will provide additional time if needed. Part of the briefing process will include giving you time to understand and demonstrate the basic controls of the boat.

Onboard Essentials

0 lessons DSC 0286 16

We provide personal flotation devices for all onboard your boat including children and pets. Normally these will be lightweight self-inflating lifejackets, however fixed buoyancy aids are also available. Any children’s buoyancy will need to be fitted – a member of our team will supervise and recommend and allow a parent/guardian to check the fit.

A complimentary welcome bag of freshly ground coffee, Norfolk tea, milk and cookies is available onboard for you to enjoy a drink as you unload, unpack and start to unwind! We also provide a full skippers handbook and maps, tide tables and tourist information on board.

We are happy to receive a supermarket delivery on the morning of your arrival and put everything on board for you before you arrive – if you could arrange any deliveries from 11am onwards, that would be helpful. There is also a local community shop here in Upton, which can provide a starter pack hamper, let us know if you would like to order this or contact the shop directly.

Returns

On your day of departure, we ask that you vacate your boat by 0900 at the very latest and by 0830 if at all possible. Please dispose of all rubbish using the waste and recycling bins available at the yard.

If there is a problem during the week, please contact us and make us aware so that we can complete any necessary repairs or sort any issues for you. Please ring or email us on your final afternoon with any issues or breakages and also complete repairs and breakages form that you will find with the Skippers Manual on arrival. The form should be left on the table or seat of you boat when you depart. This will help us to ensure that we can repair and replace items prior to the next guests arriving.

Wishing you and all the family a very happy and safe 2023 – and some super sailing too!
